Halsey Has Entered The Beauty Chat

Halsey is joining Rihanna, Selena Gomez, and Millie Bobbie Brown with the curation and launch of her very own beauty brand, About-Face. The award-winning artist has been hinting about her latest project for months through mysterious posts on social media. Now, all has finally been revealed.

Welcome to Artist Spotlight #38 series on my blog.

About-Face launched with three distinct franchises: Light Lock, Matte, and Shadowstick. The Light Lock assortment includes face highlighters with ultimate shine in stick, powder, fluid, and lip gloss form. The Matte range includes velvety finishes with products like the Paint-It Matte Lip Colors, Matte Fix Lip Pencils, and Fluid Eye Paint. Lastly, Shadowsticks are precise cream shadow crayons in soft pastel colors. The launch includes ten different products in an array of colors across each category. All About-Face products are vegan, cruelty-free, and formulated without gluten, phthalates, parabens, or synthetic fragrances.

Keeping to her vision of self-love, identity, and reflection, about-face is a creation of Ashley Frangipane (Halsey’s birth name), with the brand’s initials being a reflection of her own. The beauty brand focuses on a collection that is “For everyone, for everywhere, for every way with a dedication to products that are as edgy and non-conforming as the voice behind it,” according to the press release.

Serving as founder and Chief Creative Officer, Halsey has had her hands in every step of the curation and launch, even stating on Twitter that she did the makeup and photos for all the models during the campaign. So far, the campaign has featured people of various backgrounds and identities, emphasizing the theme of multi-dimensional makeup for everyone.

About-Face officially launched on January 25, 2021, on aboutface.com. The line includes affordable items that range from $14 to $32.

The Watercolour Makeup Trend Will Transform Your Winter Look

Looking at the makeup on the models walking the autumn/winter runways, you could have been forgiven for thinking that you were seeing a show from the wrong season. Pops of blue, flashes of orange and pink, dustings of yellow, green and lilac… the painterly palettes chosen by makeup artists backstage at shows such as Dries Van Noten, Gucci, Maison Margiela and Missoni were decidedly springlike. And so, too, was their application, which was as important as the spectrum of colour itself. Sheer watercolour washes gave the look a very accessible appeal.

Missoni autumn/winter 2020.

“Transparency automatically makes colour more beautifying on the face,” explains Terry Barber, director of makeup artistry for MAC Cosmetics. “It takes away the fear of looking garish or retro, and it’s those fresh, plump washes of colour that allow you to be more playful.” Be it a halo around the eye, a new or unusual experimentation in lip colour, or a gentle tonal clash on both eyes and lips, using products in this way gives an end result that is much softer – and this is, according to Barber, the easiest and most flattering in-road to exploring technicolour choices. “Veils of colour that bring out the features rather than enclose them are the unsung heroes of makeup,” he says.

So what to make of this more romantic approach? “It’s a good time to break the seasonal rules and not resort to the classic earthiness of autumnal beauty,” says Barber. “Instead celebrate the colours of optimism and freshness. Can we say spring/summer is the new autumn/winter?” It’s a resounding yes.

If You Have Dry Skin, You Need to Try This Influencer-Approved Cream Blush

It’s infused with rosehip and jojoba oils for maximum hydration.

If dry skin has ever kept you from wearing makeup, skincare CEO Charlotte Parler promises you’ll meet your match with the Kosas Color & Light Cream Palette.

“It’s probably my favorite cosmetic product right now,” said Parler, the founder of Dieux Skin, in a recent viral TikTok. “If you have dry skin, this highlighter and cream blush duo is going to make you look dewy.”

Kosas clearly had dry skin in mind when creating this palette, which is formulated with apricot kernel, rosehip, and jojoba seed oils to soothe and brighten skin. The blend of oils also makes for an incredibly blendable product, and the infused pigments are buildable and offer major staying power. To seal the deal, the blush and highlighter are cruelty-free and boast a shelf life of a whopping 18 months.

The Color & Light palette is available in four complementary color combinations, all of which are also sold in a high-intensity variation containing double the pigment. And these shades have range — shoppers can choose from the peach and cream Velvet Melon, the cool pinks of 8th Muse, the burnt orange and mauve in Helios, and the vibrant bronze hues of the Tropic Equinox duo

Buy on their website $44

More than 300 shoppers have supported Parler’s claims about this palette in the form of a five-star review on Kosas’ website. “During the winter when my skin is naturally drier, this allows me to keep my skin hydrated while having a dewy looking glow,” one customer wrote. “It’s exactly what I was looking for!”

“I love the glow this gives on my dry skin,” said another. “I find myself grabbing it almost daily.”

The Kosas Color & Light Cream Palette can be yours for $34, which isn’t so bad when you consider that it contains two high-quality formulations in a single pan. Plus, if you sign up for the brand’s mailing list, you’ll receive 10% off your first order. No matter your skin tone or texture, it’s a foolproof path to a hydrated flush during the driest season of the year.
